Update as of Aug. 1,  2024 The Hot tub replacement project was tendered May 31, 2024 with a closing date of June 27th, 2024. The approved 2024 capital budget included $750,000 for the construction project which included the full reconstruction of the hot tub. Upon the closing date one submission was received. The proposal received included a price of $1.3 million, which is $550,000 over the approved budget. An update from the women’s shelter, support for asphalt work, and a proud display of fandom from Coun. Marc Boychuk (he lost a bet) highlighted the May 27, 2024 council meeting. The Peace River Regional Women’s Shelter gave an update following its mould remediation work, for which the Town contributed financial assistance earlier this year. “We had amazing support,” said Carol Van Slyke, chair of the shelter’s board, talking about local governments stepping up quickly to address the mould discovery. It was a four-hour marathon of a council meeting on Monday! Here are some of the highlights from the May 13, 2024 meeting: New tax rates were set. This year we are collecting a total of $12.46 million in property taxes, compared to $11.99 million in 2023. That means we are collecting an extra $69.90 per resident, which is $5.80 per month or $0.19 per day. Combined resources extinguish residential fire overnight Peace River, AB – At approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Peace River Fire Department and Weberville Fire Department responded to a call of a residential fire in the north end of town. Fire Chief Tim Harris also sent a mutual aid request to Northern Sunrise County for fire services, and St. Isidore Fire Department provided a fire engine and crew.
